I'm in the Automobile Business, what is the best
Paint Gauge for me, the FS 488 or the FS 502 Coating
Thickness Gauge?
Let's make it
simple...The
FS 488 is the
only paint gauge you will ever need if
you buy and sell vehicles. It is simple,
fast, small and affordable. It never
needs calibration, and the FS 488 Paint Meter makes
it very easy to spot paint work on a vehicle you are
appraising or buying. Many of the major dealership
chains, thousands of independents and many of the
Auctions use the FS 488 Paint Gauge.

Some of our customers simply
want the best they can find and don't mind spending a little
more. Just like some people wear a Rolex, some people wear a
Timex. Both do a good job of telling time. It is
just a matter of personal choice. If you are a perfectionist, you'll
love the FS502
If you are the type of person
who uses a basic "point-and-click" camera you'll want a FS 488
Paint Meter. If you go for the advanced cameras with full
adjustability, you'll want to get the FS 502 Paint
Thickness Gauge.
The FS 502 has a cool blue lighted face,
making it easier to appraise cars at night.
The FS 502 measure in
10ths of a mil, instead of 1/2 mil increments. (This makes no
difference in finding paintwork...some people just prefer the
higher accuracy)
The FS 502 reads to 50
mils of thickness. This could be helpful if you are
checking "classics" where there is a potential for for
bondo.
The FS 502 can be zeroed
out (calibrated) for complete accuracy.
The FS 502 reads in both
Mils and Microns (European Measurement)
The FS 502 has a
positive 'on' button, so it never accidentally turns itself on,
avoiding unexpected dead batteries.
Detailers and Body Shops
like the higher accuracy and the ability to read in microns.
This makes wet sanding easier.
